Jonathan loves empowering students to achieve above and beyond their goals. An educator with many years and thousands of hours of experience, he believes in fostering independence and curiosity in his students whether working towards GPA improvement, standardized testing, college admissions, or time management.
Jonathan holds a BA in Drama from Tufts University, where he graduated magna cum laude and received the Goddard Rhetorical Prize for Excellence in Acting. As a high school student, he graduated at the top of his class and scored a 2380 on the SAT. A National Merit Finalist, he also excelled in AP curriculum and scored 5’s on 5 different AP exams. Jonathan sat for the official SAT as an adult in solidarity with his students, and scored perfect 800s in both Critical Reading and Math (without a calculator). Jonathan has taught test preparation classes at Gregorio Luperon HS for Science & Mathematics, The Beacon School, La Salle High School, Fort Hamilton High School, Millennium Brooklyn High School, Millennium Manhattan High School, Cliffside Park High School, and more throughout the New York Metropolitan Area. In addition to his work with high schoolers, Jonathan currently teaches high school equivalency math classes at the CUNY Lehman College Adult Learning Center.
Jonathan has worked with hundreds of students to achieve success on the PSAT, SAT, and ACT. Academically, he specializes in working with students to develop top-notch writing skills and to more fully understand math concepts from pre-algebra through calculus. He loves helping artistically minded students discover how math can be a creative world. He also has experience with bilingual students and students with a variety of learning differences. Jonathan’s engaging teaching style encourages students to conquer the subject at hand and have fun along the way.
Jonathan has been working virtually with students around the world since he first began tutoring in 2013, so he is familiar with the limits and opportunities of online learning. As so much education moves online, hybrid, or through other changes driven by the COVID pandemic, he brings years of experience with the world of "zoom-learning" to each interaction.
